After being closed for a week, the Benton County auditor’s office in Richland is scheduled to reopen on Feb. 5.
The office, located at 101 Wellsian Way, Suite E, was closed due to poor air quality and potential smoke damage to furnishings, carpet and air ducts because of a fire earlier in the week at the adjacent Fred Meyer store.
Richland firefighters and police responded to the Jan. 26 fire inside the store reportedly set by a disgruntled customer. Fred Meyer has reopened for business. The store recently completed a $12 million remodeling project.
Benton County has contracted with Young’s ServiceMaster to clean the office and remove any remaining smoke smell and will work with the Richland Fire Department to test for air quality.
The ballot box at this location will remain open over the weekend, and the office is scheduled to resume normal business hours starting Feb. 5. The office opens at 8:30 a.m. and closes at 4:30 p.m.
