A Richland facility that provides an array of behavioral health services to people of all ages in the region has changed its name to better reflect the scope of its offerings.
Lourdes Counseling Center officially became Lourdes Behavioral Health on Aug. 1.
“The term ‘Lourdes Counseling Center’ is really misleading because we provide so much more (in addition to) counseling,” said Mark Holyoak, CEO of Lourdes Health. “We think the name should reflect everything that we share and provide to the community.”
The rebranding, which includes a new logo and new signs around the facility at 1175 Carondelet Drive, coincides with the behavioral health center’s 50th anniversary.
It was founded in 1974 as the Benton-Franklin Mental Health Center, and it provides a range of inpatient and outpatient services to people in the Tri-Cities and beyond.
Those services include a behavioral health hospital for adults that’s licensed for 32 beds, a 16-bed crisis triage facility, individualized screening and assessment, treatment plans, substance use disorder treatment, counseling, education, outreach and more.
“We have a dedicated staff and very dedicated providers who have been here for many years and are experienced in providing evidence-based practices,” said Nelly Navarrete, senior director of behavioral health. “We’re very, very excited to be celebrating the 50 years.”
Lourdes Behavioral Health helps thousands of patients a year.
In 2023, for example, it served 222 people in the adult inpatient unit, 413 in the transitions unit and nearly 35,000 people through outpatient services.
The facility is part of Lourdes Health, which dates to 1916 when six Sisters of St. Joseph arrived via train in Pasco to open the first hospital in the region. Lourdes now is part of Lifepoint Health, a multistate health network that also includes Trios Health in Kennewick.
David Elgarico, Trios CEO and market president, said that “for us as a market, we’re poised for more growth between Lourdes Behavioral Health, Lourdes Health and Trios Health, particularly since we joined Lifepoint Health in 2018.”
The goal is continued growth, including in behavioral health, he said.
Elgarico, Navarette and Holyoak were on hand Aug. 1 for a special event to celebrate the rebranding and the 50th anniversary of Lourdes Behavioral Health.
In an interview beforehand, Holyoak reflected on both the facility’s history and future.
“We are deeply committed to enhancing access to high-quality health care across the Tri-Cities as we advance our mission of ‘making communities healthier,’” he said. “We look forward to that continued journey with the same passion and commitment that (we’ve had) over the past 50 years, and we just really look forward to the future.”
