Have thoughts on what high school students need to learn before graduation? The Washington State Board of Education wants to hear from you.
The board will hold two virtual listening sessions on March 11 as it starts a multiyear process to update the state’s graduation requirements.
“These sessions are an opportunity to share your thoughts on what Washington’s students need to be ready for life after high school – academically, professionally and as engaged community members,” the board said in a release.
Registration is required to attend a listening session. The sessions will be from noon to 1 p.m. and 6:30-7:30 p.m. The board says there will be additional opportunities to provide input.
Currently, the state requires 24 credits to earn a high school diploma, which sets specific numbers of credits needed in language arts, math, science, social studies, the arts, world language, health and fitness and career and technical education. High students also must complete a graduation pathway such as passing various standardized assessments or course sequences as well as developing a High School & Beyond Plan.
